What Happened To Thanksgiving?
November 24th, 2008 2:27 PM

It is the Monday before Thanksgiving and my kids preschool class is having a Thanksgiving Feast. I signed up to bring Thanksgiving plates and napkins so off to the store I went thinking maybe since I waited so long they might be on sale.

Not only were they not on sale, I couldn't find ANY Thanksgiving decorations. I went to 2 stores and still couldn't find a single thing that was Thanksgiving themed. There were TONS and TONS of Christmas decorations and that is still a month away but the holiday that is 4 days away from now had zero decorations.

I thought maybe it was because I was a little lazy in getting to the store but at one store the clerk said they didn't carry much and went straight from Halloween to Christmas. So what happend to Thanksgiving? Why do we forget to give thanks? I could go on and on but I don't feel like getting up on my soap box today. My kids preschool class will have to suffer with orange plates and napkins.

Use The Library!
November 18th, 2008 1:42 PM

The Public Library has to be one of the least used resources and I don't understand why! Where else these days can you find any government system that relies on the honor system? They let us borrow books, movies, CD's etc assume we check them out and that we will bring them back! I love it!

Most people say they don't have time. Let me tell you, the library is pretty high tech these days. So here's how you save time. You go to the library website and search for books, DVDs, CD's, whatever you are looking for. When you find it, place a hold on that item (even if it's not checked out), select which library you want to pick the item up at, and the library will email you when it comes in. All you have to do is walk in, go to the hold shelf, find your name, check out the book, done! It's so quick and easy.

Plus they have free internet, some free printing, and it's totally free to check things out. It's amazing. Other benefits are it encourages kids to read. I take my kids there and they love selecting a bunch of books to borrow, it makes reading time more fun when the books are ones they have never heard before and they are excited to read them. That alone is priceless!

Since you already pay the takes to keep the library going you might as well utilize it!

SeaTac is Family Friendly!
November 3rd, 2008 1:34 PM

If you are flying with kids anytime soon might I suggest you do some research before you head to the airport to save yourself some stress? Flying with kids is always stressful but if you know some tricks to make things easier it reduces the stress level.

Check the Transportation Security Administration's website for carry on rules ahead of time. Of course you can bring food and electronics, but read the portion on liquids and make sure you are packing them correctly. My friend had to give up all her liquid items because she used the wrong type of bag.

When going through security we found it best for me to assist the kids and my husband take care of the carry ons. If you have a stroller the child needs to come out of it and the stroller goes through the conveyer belt. Even if the child is sleeping you have to take them out! They have a section on their website for traveling with kids and it can be found here.

Once through security you have to somehow run as much energy out of your kids before boarding the plane. SeaTac has a child playarea similiar to what is at most malls. It's in the Central Terminal and of course has a airport theme. There is a family restroom there and the seatac website has some tips on traveling with kids as well here.
